Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about building your practice with Platinum Accounting Australia

What qualifications and experience do I need to become a licensee?

You need a Bachelor of Accounting, Bachelor of Commerce, or equivalent tertiary qualification in accounting. While CPA or CA membership is beneficial, it is not mandatory. You should have practical accounting experience and an understanding of Australian tax principles.

If you are a registered BAS agent looking to expand into full tax services, or hold international accounting qualifications, we can guide you through the pathway to Australian practice. We assess each application individually to ensure you are set up for success.

What if I've never run a business before?

That is exactly who we support. You bring the accounting expertise, we provide the systems, training, mentoring and infrastructure for the business side, so you are never working it out alone.

How much does it cost to become a Platinum Accounting Australia licensee?

There are two packages, both structured as twelve month programs. The Launch package is $1,980 per month and suits accountants starting their first practice. The Firm Builder package is $2,780 per month and suits accountants building a larger, scalable firm with premium clients. After the twelve months, membership continues at $99 per month for Launch and $199 per month for Firm Builder.

Each package includes setup, training, software, registration under our tax agent licence, professional indemnity insurance and ongoing support. There is no large upfront franchise fee.

Can I build my practice part-time while keeping my full-time job?

Absolutely. Many licensees begin part-time with 5 to 15 clients, working evenings and weekends, while maintaining their primary employment. You are building a real practice from day one, at a pace that suits your circumstances.

You control your hours, client load, and growth pace. As your practice grows, you can transition to full-time when ready. There is no pressure or minimum hours requirement.

What ongoing support do I receive as a licensee?

All licensees receive technical support for complex tax and accounting matters, access to practice management guidance, software troubleshooting and system updates, compliance and regulatory updates, professional development and CPD programs, and a licensee community forum and networking.

Both packages include strategic coaching and marketing guidance, with the Firm Builder package providing the most dedicated level of support, including a dedicated practice development manager.

Do I need my own Tax Practitioners Board registration?

No. You operate under Platinum Accounting Australia's TPB registration (Tax Agent Number 24683431), which significantly reduces your compliance burden and cost. We maintain the registration, handle regulatory requirements, and ensure quality standards.

This means you can start serving clients without waiting for individual TPB registration approval. You are covered under our professional indemnity insurance and compliance framework.

Are there territory restrictions or geographic limitations?

No. You can serve clients anywhere in Australia. Many licensees work remotely and serve clients nationally using video conferencing, cloud software, and digital communication. Whether you are in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth, regional areas, or anywhere else, you can build a practice serving clients across Australia. Location is no barrier.

How quickly can I start taking on clients?

Most licensees complete onboarding training and system setup within 2 to 6 weeks and can start serving clients immediately afterward. The timeline depends on your schedule and how quickly you complete the self-paced training modules. Once systems are set up, there is no waiting period. You can onboard your first clients straight away.

Do I need a physical office to run my practice?

No physical office is required. Most clients prefer virtual consultations and digital document exchange, particularly since COVID normalised remote professional services. Our cloud based systems, Xero Tax Manager access, and collaboration tools enable you to serve clients professionally from anywhere.

Many successful licensees operate from home offices, meeting clients virtually or at their business premises when beneficial. This significantly reduces overhead costs while maintaining professional service standards.

How does the revenue sharing model work for tax services?

You keep 100% of all bookkeeping revenue you generate with no royalties or percentage fees. For tax agent services provided under Platinum's registered tax agent licence, we share 50 to 65% of the tax service revenue with you, depending on service complexity.

The remaining portion covers our quality review, compliance oversight, and lodgement responsibilities. Clients pay Platinum directly for all tax agent services, as required by Tax Practitioners Board regulations, while your bookkeeping fees come directly to you.

What happens if I later obtain my own licence?

The client relationships you build are yours. If you go on to obtain your own registration, your clients remain with you. You are building an asset, not renting one.

What's the difference between this and a traditional franchise?

The Platinum Accounting Australia licensee model is different from a traditional franchise. You are not buying a territory or paying large upfront franchise fees.

Instead, you operate under your own brand and license our systems, infrastructure and tax agent registration. Tax services must by law be delivered through a registered tax agent, which is what the licence provides. You operate independently, keep the majority of fees, and access professional support without the rigid requirements of franchise operations. You also retain full ownership of your client relationships.

The Platinum Promise

We can't promise you a number, and we won't pretend to. No honest partner can.

Here is what we can promise.

We give you the systems, the technical support and the proven pathway we spent years building, and we stay beside you while you put them to work.

Do the work, and a year from now you'll be further than most accountants reach in five. You'll have built real skills, real client relationships and a practice that carries your name.

That is something no employer, market downturn or AI tool can take away.

Stop Building Someone Else's Equity

Most accountants spend decades helping other businesses grow. Very few build an asset of their own.

Whether your goal is a second income from your own practice, a future exit from corporate or long term financial independence, the first step is building something you own.

The best time to start was five years ago.
The second best time is today.
